SBC welcomes Mzaik v. Syria case in U.S. District Court

SBC is proud to support a civil lawsuit (Mzaik v. Syria) filed by the Center for Justice and Accountability in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the Syrian Arab Republic. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a Syrian-American man who was detained and tortured at the Assad regime’s Air Force Intelligence Branch at the Mezzeh Military Airport in January 2012. We hope that this historic case can mark a step towards achieving justice for victims of crimes committed in Syria.

SBC is proud to be listed on CJA’s site as a partner & collaborator on this case. Our investigation team conducted legal analysis of some of the documentary evidence that will be used for this case. The team has also co-facilitated an advocacy coalition (Free Syria’s Disappeared) composed of victims and families organisations and activists calling for the release of detainees in Assad’s prisons. For more information on the coalition, visit their website, Twitter page, and Instagram account.
