SBC Investigations Team attends Syrian Civil Society Chemical Weapons Conference

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

Members of SBC’s Investigations Team attended the “Syrian Civil Society Chemical Weapons Conference” on 23 November in The Hague, which discussed the prospect of establishing a comprehensive justice mechanism for victims of chemical attacks in Syria. Conference attendees welcomed the arrest warrant issued by France on 16 November against Syrian President Bashar Assad, his brother Maher Assad, and two other Syrian regime officials over the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria. However, they stressed that further international action is required to ensure that such chemical attacks do not recur as well as to establish and advance comprehensive legal mechanisms that can bring justice to all victims of chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

Read the following report on the conference written by Dr Yasmine Nahlawi, head of the Investigations Team.
